Nothing makes you stand out more than being a woman of her word. Flighty and frivolous women will be treated as such, and are not to be taken seriously.
Now, that is not to say that you should be a completely open book and spell out your availability (you should never do that!). But if on occasion you make a promise, definitely keep it.
If you want to burn bridges and sever connections, keep making promises that you don’t fulfill.
A true story:
I had been contracted by someone to work the floor at an exhibit for a photographer and hand out brochures to advertise his business. It was good and easy money.
However, when I finally spoke to the photographer, he had no idea who I was.
Boy, was this embarrassing!
I was on the phone, trying to explain myself, and due to having no clue, he had already hired two other girls. This was not only awkward for both of us, but I had also lost trust in the woman who had gotten my hopes up about working for this photographer.
Fortunately for her, I had sought an explanation from her. Therefore, she was forgiven. However, not everyone will come to you for justification. They may just move on!
So how to become a woman of her word?
Practical examples of keeping your promises:
1. Try not to flake on appointments
This goes not only for dates, but also for hair, medical, and business appointments. If you must cancel, offer a good reason. However, try to avoid cancelling too often.
You want to be taken seriously. And their time is as valuable as yours.
2. Keep your promises
If you make a deal with someone (e.g., I have made a deal with Anna to blog for her once a week), keep doing it unless you have discussed otherwise. This is how you build trust and integrity.
Relationships form through faith.
3. Don’t be too rushed in saying ‘yes.’
This can often happen out of excitement. But when you settle down, you may realize that you cannot keep your appointment.
Give yourself time to think something over before agreeing to it.
3. Make it work!
If you make a promise, you must make the logistics of it work. As given in the example above, the lady who made me the promise of work should have phoned the photographer shortly after that.
Remember that a high-quality woman keeps her promises.
This is a way of showing character and consideration. And it makes her beautiful inside too!
Beautiful women in higher circles are a dime a dozen.
But how many are also beautiful inside too?
For the next while, we will discuss ways on cultivating inner beauty.
